Kuduo Vessel- Ghana
Kuduo vessel, Ghana, late 19th century to mid-20th century.
Hand-cast bronze, using the lost-wax technique.
Kuduo vessels can be traced back to the 14th century as perhaps ritualistic but rather basic metal containers used in Egypt and Syria. More elaborate versions of these were later developed by the Asante people, with more intricate, symbolic designs and exceptional metalwork.
Kuduo vessels were used to keep objects of personal and sacred value.
